“The Coventry Carol”, in E minor

A Sixteenth Century carol, from the mystery play The Pageant of the Shearmen and Tailors, about the massacre of the innocents. Take note of the interesting harmonic effect called a Picardy third, where the minor third in the tonic chord moves up a semi-tone to make a major third at the end of each stanza.
